Allegiant Travel Company, known for its ultralow-fare carrier Allegiant Air, is expanding into the resort business. It plans to break ground on a condo-hotel on Florida’s Gulf Coast as early as next June.

The company will brand its resort operations under the name Sunseeker Resorts.

The first Sunseeker will be built on 22 acres of waterfront land in Port Charlotte, Fla., about 85 miles southeast of St. Petersburg and about 10 miles northwest of Punta Gorda/Fort Myers Airport. Allegiant earlier this year estimated that Punta Gorda was the carriers fifth-largest base.

The resort will ihave as many as nine condominium towers as well as a 75-room hotel. The property will have more than 10 restaurants and bars and its own marina and grocery store. Allegiant says the resort will boast North America’s largest resort pool.

Allegiant will own and operate the resort, scheduled to open in late 2019. It will start condominium sales by the end of the year.
