Maroma, A Belmond Hotel in Mexico's Riviera Maya has reopened following an extensive revamp.

The property had been shuttered since April 2021.

Maroma has relaunched with 72 rooms, suites and villas, including 10 new one- and two-bedroom beachfront suites offering ocean views and direct beach access.

As part of the renovation, Maroma has put an emphasis on Mexican art and design, with around 80% of the hotel's furnishings and other decorative objects handcrafted in Mexico. These include elements like hand-painted clay tiles in the guestrooms, rugs that were locally crafted using material sourced from agave plants and traditional wooden doors made in Yucatan.

On the culinary front, the hotel has partnered with Michelin-star chef Curtis Stone to debut a signature restaurant called Woodend by Curtis Stone. Designed to showcase Curtis' signature open-fire cooking technique, the restaurant serves fare like grilled blue shrimp and a Baja striped bass with tomato fondue as well as plant-based dishes like cabbage heart with camembert and Mayan rice with maitake mushrooms.

Other food and beverage options include Casa Mayor, a locally inspired concept focused on sourcing 90% of its ingredients from Mexico; the casual Bambuco bar, which specializes in seasonal, herb-forward cocktails; and Freddy's Bar, a beach venue with music, seafood and cocktails.

In November, the hotel plans to open its Maroma Spa by Guerlain, which Belmond said will be the first Spa by Guerlain in Latin America.

Rates start at $1,095 per night.
