Crystal Cruises' will shut down this week, according to numerous sources.

In audio posted on Twitter by Crew Center, a man purported to be captain of the Crystal Symphony said that "the entire Crystal Cruises office in the U.S. is closing down."

"Unfortunately, this is the end of Crystal Cruises, and we don't know what's going to happen in the future," the voice said, adding that "the ships are for sale. ... I know you probably have a lot of questions, but I unfortunately don't have any answers right now."

The captain said that he has been waiting for a statement from Crystal's president, Jack Anderson, but that so far he hadn't gotten one. Several Crystal shoreside employees said they were told that their last day was Feb. 9 and that Crystal headquarters in Miami would close.

According to various sources, V.Ships Leisure is expected to assume management of Crystal's ships and were appointed by the line's liquidators.

Last week, the Crystal Serenity and the Crystal Symphony were arrested in the Bahamas.

The Crystal Endeavor is en route to Montevideo, Uruguay, after ending its Antarctica cruise in Argentina. Crystal's five riverboats are laid up in Europe for the winter.

Sources say that it is increasingly likely that Crystal's assets will be sold off individually rather than as a whole.

Crystal said last month it was suspending operations after parent company Genting Hong Kong filed to wind up its assets, saying it had run out of cash. A Bermuda court appointed liquidators to oversee its assets, including Crystal and Asia-based Dream Cruises.
