The Explora I set off on its maiden voyage out of Copenhagen, Denmark, on Tuesday. The $550 million ship is sailing to Reykjavik over seven nights.

The first ship for MSC Group's new luxury cruise line, Explora Journeys, had faced a series of setbacks in its construction.

Most recently, faulty fire-resistant panels needed to be replaced, forcing the line to cancel its July 17 maiden voyage from England.

The 922-passenger ship had been in the works since 2021. However, the Explora I faced supply chain issues early on, delaying its original May 2023 debut.

The line's next ship, Explora II, is expected to enter service in August 2024.
