Viking River Cruises dates to 1997, when company chairman Tor Hagen purchased four Russian river cruise ships. The line has since grown into the largest river cruise company in the world, with 72 ships set to sail in 2021 across Europe, Asia and Egypt. It is also expanding into the U.S. market, with plans to launch the Viking Mississippi in August 2022.
